Walkerburn Allotments Update

Tuesday, 26 January 2010 16:12

Walkerburn awarded over £6500 to take allotments development forward. Despite the difficult weather a good turn out for the public meeting earlier in January gave the plan for allotments a warm response.  It is clear from the response that the project is popular.

There are enough people from the village who have put their name down to fill almost all the plots already.  Almost everyone expressing an interest is keen to help to shape the project.  It was decided that a steering group should be established with a view to forming the Walkerburn Allotments Society.

The steering group has already met and is looking at good practice elsewhere and seeking companies that can help to address the issues ahead.  Fortunately a bid for assistance with this work to the Lottery Awards for All scheme has been successful. Derek Russell the Walkerburn Powerdown Worker revealed that £6785 has been awarded to the Walkerburn Community Development Trust for this important work.

It is very much hoped that this will pave the way for success with a much larger bid to the Climate Challenge Fund for the funds to set up the site.  Anyone who would like to express an interest or get in touch is invited to do so by contacting the steering group at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
