150th anniversary celebrations

Our first celebration was on January 13th which was our 150th birthday! We marked the occasion with each staff member and pupil receiving a commemorative badge and a special treat of a Caldwell’s ice cream!  Celebrations continue over the next 18 months.

As we are now well into our 150th Anniversary celebrations, we have been delighted to hear from former pupils and staff from many years back. We are currently planning 3 events.

On Sunday 22nd April 2012 from 2pm-4pm we will be holding our first reunion in the school. All former pupils, staff and parents of pupils are welcome. Refreshments will be available and there will be the chance to meet up with old friends and share stories and memories. A range of photographs will be on display.

On Sunday 30th September 2012 the church will be holding a service of thanksgiving in the village hall at 10am. We will then have another reunion in the afternoon – again in the school with a chance for similar meetings with old friends etc.

Our final event will be on Saturday 18th May 2013 – this is a founders’ day when we hope to have a full day of fun and celebration – more details will follow.

Further details can be obtained from :- sbean@scotborders.gov.uk

The Commemorative badges are available for sale to the public through the school for £3 each.

Here are the children from Walkerburn primary School who have been taking soil samples and making rain guages.  They are 1 of only 8 schools in Scotland taking part in the Citizen Science Pilot.

Children have been counting Earth Worms and will be measuring rainfall and they will feed this data into the National Weather Data record.
